Trademark Attorney Kevin Haynie

My name is Kevin Haynie, and I am a trademark attorney assisting clients around the world with their U.S. trademark matters.  I primarily focus on helping them to obtain trademark registrations for their names, logos, and slogans with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.  This often starts with performing a trademark search to help them determine whether a particular name may be available for use and registration.  Also, I represent clients in various trademark infringement matters.

Why is it so important for a business to protect its trademarks?  Because if someone sues you for trademark infringement, you might lose your business.  If a judge orders you to stop using the name of your business, for example, then you are essentially starting from scratch. Rebranding means that your customers will no longer recognize you. You will lose the goodwill that you have built up around your brand.  The cost of rebranding is potentially ruinous to a business.  And you may be compelled to pay damages for infringement, too.  That is why it is important for all businesses to consult with a trademark attorney as early as possible.

Providing Value To My Clients

The Pitfalls of Do-It-Yourself Trademark Services

I provide my clients with the kind of personalized customer service that cannot be found with "do-it-yourself" trademark services like LegalZoom or Trademarkia.  Their own advertisements state that they are “not a law firm.”  And the Trademark Office’s website provides information and resources for trademark applicants to learn about the trademark registration process.  So if you are attempting to do it yourself, why would you pay someone else the extra money to do so?

On the other hand, if you are looking for an experienced trademark attorney who can give you legal advice about your particular trademark matter, then I would be happy to speak with you.  I will personally prepare your trademark filings as these do-it-yourself companies claim to do.  However, it will be based on my understanding of your unique matter from our conversations, not from your preparation of online forms that can overlook or ignore key legal issues.

Affordable and Personalized Trademark Attorney Service

My trademark attorney services also provide value that you will not find at the bigger law firms.  Many firms charge at an hourly rate.  I prefer to do as much of my work as possible on a flat-fee basis.  I believe that this helps my clients, many of which are small or startup businesses, to control their costs.  Also, when I am hired to represent clients, they know exactly who is doing the work: me.  I will personally be working on your trademark matters.  Not a paralegal.  Not a law clerk.  And not a summer intern.  When you hire a trademark attorney to assist you, they should be doing the work.  And that is absolutely the case when you hire me.

When you need to speak with me, I will answer or return your call.  I make myself available to communicate with clients via phone or email in a timely manner.  Attorneys at larger firms may not have the time to speak with you, or may need you to schedule an appointment several weeks in advance.  I believe that your concerns shouldn’t have to wait that long to be addressed.

Who Is Kevin Haynie?

Professional History

I am a graduate of the St. Louis University School of Law, where I completed a concentration in intellectual property law.  I have had a strong interest in intellectual property matters since my second year of law school, when I began taking as many IP-related classes as possible.  I graduated from law school in 2012, and passed the Missouri Bar Exam shortly after graduation.

After taking the Bar Exam, I worked as a Legal Intern for Hussmann Corporation.  Once I completed my internship, I decided to stay at Hussmann, and I took on the role of IT Contracts Manager.  In that position, I reviewed, negotiated, and approved various agreements for the IT Department. During this time, I also became the Social Media and Marketing Manager for YourTrademarkAttorney.com, a trademark law firm.  My responsibilities in that role included client outreach, and finding and posting fun and interesting "trademark in the news" articles for social media.

Since 2012, I have worked closely with YourTrademarkAttorney.com owner and fellow trademark attorney Morris Turek.  I have assisted in the preparation, filing, and prosecution of over 3,500 trademark applications.  And through my work I have acquired an extensive knowledge of trademark law. In February 2016, I began working full-time as an attorney for Morris and YourTrademarkAttorney.com.  I am very happy to be able to help small businesses and to watch my clients grow and become successful.

Personal Life

I have recently relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, but I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri, and started my career there.  Over the years, my work has allowed me to help and support the St. Louis business community.  I am a member of the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, where I have taught classes on trademark and copyright law.  I also volunteer to help artists with their copyright and trademark matters through the St. Louis Volunteer Lawyers and Accountants for the Arts.  Additionally, I have had the opportunities to go back and teach at the St. Louis University School of Law, and coach a SLU Law Moot Court team, as well as my high school Mock Trial team.

Although I have recently moved from St. Louis, I am very happy that the nature of my work will allow me to continue assisting my clients there.  At the same time, I look forward to becoming a part of the community here in Phoenix, and having future opportunities to teach, volunteer, and work with local individuals and businesses on matters of trademark and copyright law.

Aside from my work with YourTrademarkAttorney.com, I stay very busy with a number of hobbies.  These include: guitar, reading, weightlifting, checking out the wide variety of restaurants that Phoenix has to offer, and spending time with my wife Jackie, our dogs Waffles and Winnie, and our two cats Layla and Castiel.
